Federal Tax Credits

Energy efficient homes are smart.

Improving the energy efficiency of your home is a smart move for you and for the environment. Start saving money on your utility bills by adding insulation and replacing windows, doors and garage doors. When you do, check out the tax credits that may apply to some of those improvements.

Federal Tax Credit

For your principal residence in the U.S., you can receive up to $500 for adding to your home’s insulation.

  • Tax credit is for the cost of the product only, not labor and installation costs.
  • Tax credit is 10 percent of the cost of the product up to $500 maximum.
  • Tax credits require a receipt that shows the cost of the product.
  • Tax credits for your qualifying purchase can be claimed on your federal tax return.
